OCEARCH Partnership

The Discovery School is proud to announce a dynamic new partnership with OCEARCH, a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing ocean research and the protection of marine species such as sharks.

OCEARCH is best known for its innovative shark tracking technology and its unique, collaborative research expeditions that bring together scientists from around the world. Their efforts focus on collecting critical data to help protect marine ecosystems, particularly apex predators like white sharks, which play a vital role in maintaining ocean health.

In the Spring of 2025, students from Kindergarten through Middle School gathered to learn about OCEARCH’s real-world impact. Through this exciting partnership, students will gain access to:

  • Live tracking data that follows the movements of tagged marine animals in real time
  • Interactive sessions with OCEARCH scientists and researchers
  • Curriculum resources aligned with state standards for grades 1–8
  • Hands-on activities and projects that bring ocean science into the classroom

To kick off the collaboration, The Discovery School has adopted a shark named Contender, whose journey students will follow as they explore marine science topics throughout the year.

“At OCEARCH, we believe the future of ocean health starts in classrooms,” said Chris Fischer, Founder & Expedition Leader of OCEARCH. “The Discovery School’s commitment to hands-on learning and ocean advocacy shows what’s possible when education and conservation come together. We’re honored to be part of their journey.”

This partnership marks a significant step in The Discovery School’s ongoing efforts to prepare students to be thoughtful, informed, and engaged stewards of the environment.
