Bringing Ocean Science to Life
At The Discovery School, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Through our partnership with OCEARCH, a global nonprofit dedicated to advancing ocean research and protecting marine species, Discovery students have the opportunity to engage with real-world science, research, and conservation.
OCEARCH is known for its collaborative research expeditions and innovative tracking technology, which allows scientists—and our students—to follow the movements of sharks and other marine animals while contributing to a greater understanding of ocean health.

What happens when students have the opportunity to connect what they are learning in the classroom with science happening in the world around them?
Our students helped tell that story in a special film capturing their experience with OCEARCH. From asking questions and exploring marine science to understanding the important role sharks play in our oceans, the film offers a glimpse into the kind of authentic, hands-on learning that inspires curiosity at Discovery.
Real-World Learning Across Campus
The partnership began in Spring 2025, when students from Kindergarten through Middle School gathered to learn about OCEARCH’s work and its impact on ocean conservation. Since then, the collaboration has brought marine science to life through:

By giving children opportunities to engage with working scientists, real research, and authentic environmental questions, we encourage them to see themselves not simply as students of science, but as curious thinkers capable of making a difference.

How does the OCEARCH Global Shark Tracker work?
Discovery adopted Contender, a great white shark tracked by OCEARCH. Students can follow Contender’s movements and use his journey as a window into marine ecosystems, migration, conservation, and scientific research.
